Sarah Manongdo-Joya was born in 1977 in the Philippines and moved to the USA at age 12. She graduated from Loyola University Chicago in 1999 with a Bachelor's Degree in Biology, and received a Doctor of Optometry Degree from Illinois College of Optometry in 2005. She is fluent in 3 languages (Spanish,Tagalog).
